A Swim Pond is an interactive aquatic ecology in your very own back yard. Drawing inspiration from Tasmanian nature, these features are custom-built, chemical-free alternatives to the standard pool.
You might have seen natural pools or formal ponds which have similar traits, but at Mountain Rock Pools our build style mimics nature.
We create billabongs and natural swimming holes just like the ones you’d see out in the wild with fresh, silken water. With fish and aquatic plants that support filtration, these features aren’t just something you’ll love from the very beginning, but they’ll grow on you, too.
We work with Aquascape recreation pond systems. The water is filtered through positive, up-flow wetland filtration, strategic planting and doses of beneficial bacteria. The waterfalls and jets reticulate and aerate the water, but even if they didn’t, who doesn’t love a waterfall?
To create these custom-design water features, we dig out and terrace the existing landscape, line with geotextile and EPDM lining and frame with locally sourced boulders, rock and pebble. It’s designed to your needs, your block and your budget. There will never be another pond just like yours.

As beautiful as these features are in the day, they’re really something else at night. Imagine settling down in the evening on your deck next to your fire pit, watching the lights dance through the waterfalls in your swim pond. Like anything else, these features thrive when taken care of properly. If time is a deciding factor for you when chosing your water feature, here are some things Swim Pond owners do to keep their water feature in good condition.
Like a traditional pool, our natural swimming ponds have a skimmer that collects floating debris. Unless you’ve a lot of leaf litter in the area, you shouldn’t need to check it more than once a week, if not less.
Water levels can drop with evaporation, interaction, low edges or the odd puncture.
Pond pumps die if they run dry and it voids the warranty. There are a few things that can cause water loss, so just keep an eye on the waterline and get in touch with us if it drops too frequently.

We can include an automatic top-up function during or after the build so your pond can further take care of itself.
These natural pools are chemical free, but there are solutions that need to be administered for the filtration to be effective and to manage things like algae blooms. We’ll be able to tell you how much beneficial bacteria you’ll need and how frequently you’ll need it to keep your swimming pond clear and safe.
Don’t want to think about it?
Auto-dosers are an optional extra that can be programmed to dispense the right amount of bacteria for your water feature at exactly the right time.
Pumps need annual maintenance to retain the warrantee and to make sure you get the best out of your investment.
Swim Ponds additionally require wetland backflushes as needed. We provide this, and other services, in our Aftercare support for our clients.
